LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser Hair Removal

At Medical Lasers we have been providing a Laser Hair Removal service since our inception in 1994. At Medical Lasers long term hair reduction can be achieved using the state-of-the-art LightSheer™ diode laser. Laser hair removal technology offers significant advantages over all other treatment options such as plucking, shaving, waxing and depilatory creams as the hair is destroyed at the follicle. This reduces the occurrence of ingrown hairs, skin infection and irritation. Our experienced technicians can discuss your options during your initial consultation.

Is Laser Hair Removal Safe?

When used under supervised conditions and by experienced Dermal Therapists the LightSheer™ diode laser is a safe and effective way to eliminate unwanted facial and body hair for both women and men. The Class 4 Medical Strength Lasers used at Medical Lasers do not produce any UV or short-wave radiation, which are the energies known to cause long-term damage.

How Does The Laser Work?

The LightSheer™ diode laser emits a high intensity red light at a wavelength strongly absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light is absorbed by the pigment, heating the hair follicle and destroying it. This process is suitable for small or large areas as it treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously so it is quicker and more effective than other hair removal treatments.

Why Do I Need A Consultation?

Initial consultations are important for our Dermal Therapists to assess the skin area and to make sure laser hair removal is the appropriate treatment for you. Medical Lasers recommends that our patients have an initial small test patch to identify correct laser energy levels and to assess any occurrence of changes to the skin pigment.

Will The Hair Return?

It is clear that prolonged hair loss is possible; however, at the time of treatment hair will be in varied stages of growth. Follow up treatments at Medical Lasers are necessary depending on the activity of hair growth. Dormant follicles can also become active later in life in response to hormonal or other influences. There is no guarantee that hair removal will be permanent but studies have shown excellent results over long periods of time.

Is Laser Hair Removal Painful?

Laser Hair Removal can cause mild discomfort likened to being lightly snapped by a rubber band as the LightSheer™ diode laser beam heats the hair follicle. The laser has an in-built cooling system that acts as a natural anaesthetic, cooling the skin during the treatment and minimising discomfort.

Are There Any Side Effects To Laser Hair Removal?

At Medical Lasers we have found that side effects are rare and generally very mild. The possibility of adverse effects can include a lightening or darkening of the skin pigment, mild swelling or redness. The use of fake tan, sun-beds or active sun tanning is not recommended during the period of laser hair removal treatments as the pigment changes can interfere with the effectiveness of the process. Medical Lasers recommends the daily use of sunscreen.

ELECTROLYSIS

Medical Lasers also offers electrolysis as an alternative to removing hair that does not have pigment. It is especially suitable for smaller areas such as facial hair. Click here to find out more about this procedure.
